I saw this boy the other day striding down the road in this baby pink polo. He was smiling to himself probably thinking "I'm so macho I can wear pink".
But that is just rubbish. The only reason boys wear pink is to avoid appearing homophobic and to try to score points with girls. Doesn't work for me obviously.
Baby Pink only looks good on a small amount of people a small amount of the time. Hopefully people will learn this soon.

Pink got confused with effeminacy or homosexuality only relatively recently. Historically, it has always been a masculine colour.

I thought it was common knowledge. I think it is because red is a very strong masculine colour and pink is what happens to it when red cloth gets bleached in the sun, which is what tends to happen when real men are out of doors doing their thing. The British army fought in Red for a long time, though their jackets would often be multi-hued close up after a bit: faded with rusty brown patches from dried blood, white circular salty sweat stains and general grime. Those who washed their jackets or simply got soaked in the rain did not necessarily find the dyes were all colour-fast in any case. This could have the army looking pink to their enemies who were trying to keep their distance from them by the end of a long campaigning season.
I wonder if its really in the late 19th century that cheap chemical dyes gave people the range of colours to go deliberately aiming for a pink toned cloth from the outset on any scale.
At http://www.colormatters.com/colors_pink.html, this issue was discussed in relation to children recently. The picture is surprisingly confused. "According to Jean Heifetz, for centuries, all European children were dressed in blue because the color was associated with the Virgin Mary. The use of pink and blue emerged at the turn of the century, the rule being pink for boys, blue for girls. Since pink was a stronger color it was best suited for boys; blue was more delicate and dainty and best for girls. And in 1921, the Women's Institute for Domestic Science in Pennsylvania endorsed pink for boys, blue for girls. (When Blue Meant Yellow. pp. 20 -21)
One could argue that contemporary color symbolism confirms these associations. Blue is considered a calm, passive color, hence feminine. Red (pink derived from red) is considered active hence masculine.
On the other hand, the idea of associating blue with male babies may stem back to ancient times when having a boy was good luck. Blue, the color of the sky where gods and fates lived, held powers to ward off evil, so baby boys where dressed in blue. In Greece a blue eye is still thought to have powers to ward off evil. The idea of pink for girls might come from the European legend that baby girls were born inside delicate pink roses.
Another theory states that the sexual origins can be found in ancient China. At a time when certain dyes were quite rare, pink dye was readily available and therefore inexpensive. Since blues were rare and expensive, it was therefore considered to be more worthwhile to dress your son in blue, because when he married the family would receive a dowry."

Why? I think its great when people say things that make others think. I had to really look it up because it was one of those things I though I knew about but didn't know where from.

Will Smith looks good in anything he wears. And sis I must say your comments in this post are way harsh! My boyf wears and looks hot in pink (no pun intended); my general opinion is that pink is for men and not boys- only boys i.e. the childish and inferior kind- scoff at how new and hip they're being because they think wearing anything fashionable increases their chances of 'scoring'. You either know how to use what you have to interest the opposite sex or you don't. Pink doesn't come into it!
