In case you haven't seen 300, any poster section in any shop or was absent from cinema for the whole of 2006 - the title is a reference to Zack Snyders popular film 300.
Last night I finally got to see what everyone was raving about - and I do see why.
Forgetting the huge use of CGI for a moment, the acting was really good, especially Lena Headey as the Queen of Sparta and Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes. They were both great characters and really convincing. I'm not discounting Gerard Butler's career boosting performance as King Leonidas, because he was inspiring and seemed to fill the role as if it were his own story but when Xerxes first appeared the way he was presented was awe - inspriring and fitting for someone who considers themselves a God. Also compared to Leonidas he seemed to tower over him - Makes me wonder how tall Rodrigo is in real life.
The production made it a truly worthy representation of the epic battle that was, and the writing was spot on.
I would recommend it to most people - unless you have any problems seeing severed bodies, corruption, loinclothes or gratuitous beards.......

Tha Skatalites Gig
@ Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 – 12:06:00
Did I mention that I went to see The Skatalites a couple of days ago??? It was the sickest show I have ever been to, they were amazing and the atmosphere was so great. There were stall selling stuff and the supporting Dj - Iration Steppa - was keeping the felling old school JA with his reggae mixes. The supporting act - East Park Reggae Collective - were on point and did this calypso/reggae version of Ain't No Sunshine which had everyone bopping. Although some of the crowd managed to turn it into a mini mosh everyone was enjoying themselves and thats what really counts. It was well worth the money and for them to come all the way from Jamaica felt like I was privileged.
I really wanted to buy one of those military khaki jackets (£15 not bad eh?) or a patch to put on my clothes ( those stripy ones) but I knew they were overpriced at £4 each and I could get them elsewhere for like half of that!
I was in such an old school state that whole night - thought I was from a different generation lol - I need to get some of those choons so I can jam in my room

End of an Era
@ Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 – 11:57:24
Ok so it's not really the end of an era, just the end of the first term at uni!! But since I've not been home for 12 and a half weeks it's seems like a huge thing. Great that I will be reunited with my friends and family but how odd will it be not to see people that I have seen everyday for the last 3 months??
I just finished my essay as well!! Rather happy with myself - like its not something that needed to be done anyway- but the fact that its done ontime and there will be no all-nighter (which all my mates have been pulling but me? I LOVE my sleep and I don't get enough already) so I consider that success.
Another jokes thing on the horizon - fancy dress... wait for it.... as a BOY! That might be on tonight, and I know your wondering what on earth could this entail. Well the plan is baggy jeans sagging with boxers, baggy tshirt and a hat. Not exactly hard you may think but we need to make it look like fancy dress and not just our style so that we actually get into the club, so I tried looking for transfer tattoo's (however sad that seems, it would look cool..maybe lol) but I couldn't find any. Plus I don't own any tshirts baggy enough so I may be knocking on my housemates door - come to think of it the boys I live with don't really wear loose stuff, o well I still need a belt!
If anyone has heard of Dj Stylus just to big him up as I'm listening to a mix by him at the moment and it is preventing me from keeping still at the mo e.g. mini skanking hand movements with shoudlers too! lol -
Old School Shows
@ Friday, Nov. 07, 2008 – 22:34:40
Recently me and some friends were remeniscing about all those shows that we used to watch and how great they were. It is always lots of fun doing this, especially when you suggest something, no one remembers then all of a sudden the light switches on and then "OOHHHHHH" and you all sing a bit of the theme tune or remember the key parts.Of course what follows is the mandatory internet search for any remnants of your favourite childhood shows, half of which are either on bad youtube versions or not around at all - others(cough power rangers cough) have mutated into wierder versions.
Here are a few (that I can remember) that we thought of, and a few that just popped into my head.
Demon Headmaster
Tots TV
Rosie and Jim
The Wild Thornberrys
Aquila
Round the Twist
Bernards Watch
The Queens Nose
Fun House
Jungle Run
Albert the 5th Musketeer
Noah and Saskia (if anyone can find any version of this pls pls pls let me kno)
Get Your Own Back
Arthur
My Parents are Aliens
Rugrats
Xena Warrior Princess
Conan the Barbarian
The Tribe
Dangermouse
BabarFeel free to comment with some more or your own - remember I'm a 90s child so I may not rememeber some of the older ones, unless they are classics of course like Bagpuss, Moomins, The Clangers.. gosh I should have put those on the list lol

Take me to 140 Grime Street
@ Tuesday, Nov. 04, 2008 – 22:11:55
As we all know (or should know) Kano is one the best british grime artists in the game - been here for a long time and continues to keep it fresh and step up the game.
Having only jsut heard his new album (140 Grime Street) I am now a fully fledged fan of UK Grime. Before this I was just a casual listener, barely knowing the names of the artists on the scene but still knowing the tracks. However this album has made me want to download (sorry did I say download? I meant buy...cough cough) some grime so I can have the bassline rocking me on the way to uni.
Apart from the fact that Kano has a sick flow, every track is produced so well and has had me ignoring my books for the past hour and driven me to write this blog in praise. The whistlin on Huntin we will go has me shaking my head in disbelief each time(disbelief at the cleverness and timing of the whole thing), and as soon as I heard Anywhere we go my speakers were on the max and I had those gun fingers in the air!!
Unfortunately I missed Kano on tour with his last album (which was and still is the bomb) so hopefully I will catch this one - even if it means me running home to London from the north for what I'm sure will be the best gig I will attend this year..so when is it bruv?? -
Gok Wan
@ Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 – 17:22:11
So, I saw Gok Wan today at the fashion show in Clarence Dock - Leeds for the opening of the new shops and he was so funny. Makes me think I'm missing out by not watching his shows. However part of that reason is beacuse I don't have a tv with me at uni and viod of tv licence as well!
But no excuses I have 4OD and will be getting my weekly fix of Mr Wan on his new show.
I am officially a convert.

"My Favourite Piece of Music"
@ Thursday, Oct. 02, 2008 – 20:02:38
I don't know who had the audacity to think of that ( that being "My Favourite Piece of Music")as a title for a mini essay (300-500 words). Not just for any student but a MUSIC student.
I don't know many people, let alone music students, who have one favourite piece of music. Of course the title isn't implying that you will have only one favourite piece but that you need to choose one to profess about.
So once I decided on a piece I get stuck trying to describe it in proper terms excluding the use of words like sweet, hot, good and choon. You know when the song it just so good you can't really explain why you like it so much, words kind of escape the greatness of it and you go back to year 2 english and say its just great.
I imagine that once I get past this barrier and begin to unravel my love for said tune (ignoring the fact that I should be able to do this anyway since I am a music student) I won't be able to fit it into 500 words!
Now who said that music was an easy subject? -
Freshers Madness
@ Monday, Sep. 22, 2008 – 14:20:38
As a new born into the uni world I was looking forward to freshers week as the huge thing is was hyped up to be but not really believing it. Well it is true - at Leeds anyway - that it is crazy packed in the union tryna go to the intro fairs with all the societies, lots of free stuff ( i mean LOTS of free stuff - I got free dominos!) and parties every night. I know this is only monday but which band was it that said "Things.....can only get better!"

Network Connections
@ Monday, Sep. 01, 2008 – 14:48:23
So they say it's good to network, but truth is after trying to make a network between 2 of the comps in my house has been a nightmare even though I had a computer student helping me (well basically doing it for me!!). But eventually we have cracked it so there is a way through all the madness.
All this was just so I could easily move music between the computers but I think using a USB would have been quicker - still now its been done it will work forever - right??
